What makes an event family-friendly
We want to acknowledge that everyone has different ideas about what “family-friendly,” means, so we’ve decided we will write our policy based on what “family-friendly” means to our family and to most of the families we personally know. It may not align with your values & that’s okay. You are welcome here, but we understand if you choose not to join us in this endeavor.
For Iron Range Events, family-friendly means:
It’s not an alcohol-based event
We don’t promote events hosted by or at bars, smoke shops, etc.
We don’t promote events centered around drinking
We do promote events hosted by or at a location that serves alcohol, if it is not a central part of the event
If alcohol will be present or available at an event, the event coordinator must disclose that in the event listing so people are aware of it and can make the best decision for their family
We recognize there can be some gray areas here, so we’re open to hearing from you and discussing whether or not your event qualifies as family-friendly
It’s not a Pride/LGBTQ+ event
We don’t promote events hosted by LGBTQ+ organizations
We don’t promote events that are centered around/promoting LGBTQ+ ideas
We do promote events hosted by people identifying as LGBTQ+
We do invite people identifying as LGBTQ+ to attend any of the events we promote
We recognize there could be some gray areas here, so we’re open to hearing from you and discussing whether or not your event qualifies as family-friendly
It’s not an explicit/illicit event
We do not promote events that promote or contain any explicit content
We do not promote events that promote or have marijuana/cannabis present
We do not promote events that promote or have any illicit substances/content present
We do not promote events that are sexual in nature
We recognize there could be some gray areas here, so we’re open to hearing from you and discussing whether or not your event qualifies as family-friendly
It is not a gambling event
We do not promote events that promote/contain gambling or casinos
We do not promote events that are held at casinos
We do promote raffles
We recognize there could be some gray areas here, so we’re open to hearing from you and discussing whether or not your event qualifies as family-friendly
And maybe more? We reserve the right to deny any event listing for any reason whatsoever. If your event is denied you will be fully refunded. Our definition of “family-friendly” is subject to change. We feel pretty strongly about the above qualifications, but there are some gray areas (even for us) and we are happy to discuss the specifics with you. We want to promote events that we feel truly help build and strengthen our communities, and these are the qualifications we believe will help accomplish that.
